Houthis used Anthropic AI to develop ballistic missile software, says report
Houthis used Anthropic AI to develop ballistic missile software, says report A Yemen-based threat actor cell has tried to use Anthropic’s Claude AI model to create guidance, navigation, and control software for ballistic missiles, a US artificial intelligence company’s intelligence threat report said. The Financial Times said Anthropic didn’t name the group but described a cell operating from northern Yemen, most of which is controlled by the Houthi movement, that was running three weapons development programmes. The cell was trying to build a multi-stage ballistic missile, a multi-variant missile and a guided rocket using a phone-class flight computer, Anthropic said. Anthropic said its safeguards prevented “many of their requests, but not all of them” as the actors tried to circumvent protections by hiding their goals and splitting their work across multiple sessions. The report comes as the Houthis have rapidly expanded their military presence along Yemen's Red Sea coast and moved toward the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait. We're publishing our most detailed threat intelligence report to date. It covers how people tried to misuse Claude—for cyberattacks, influence operations, surveillance, biology, and building weapons—and how we found and stopped them. We disrupted every operation in the report,… — Anthropic (@AnthropicAI) September 10, 2026

Iran president says he does not favour continuing the war
Iran president says he does not favour continuing the war Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said he does not support continuing the war, but he stressed that Iran needs to improve its resistance to future challenges so that it does not have to negotiate from a position of weakness. Speaking to heads of the country’s leading universities, Pezeshkian said universities should support the government across areas including the economy, management, culture and literature, ISNA reported. Pezeshkian also called for greater involvement of students in tackling national issues. “We must make sure that instead of engaging in protest, they engage in solving problems,” he said. The president said he had “no political angle with anyone”, adding, “Whoever helps us solve the country’s problems, with whatever political viewpoint, I accept.” “Economic measures must take into account the country’s conditions, otherwise they will lead to negative results and losses instead of addressing the issues,” Pezeshkian said.

Nepal: Rescue efforts continue in the aftermath of a flash flooding disaster
Two weeks after the devastating flash floods, the number of dead and missing continues to rise. At Kathmandu’s public hospital, as well as outside the military base in Bidur, hundreds of photographs of missing people have been put up. Hundreds of families come forward, hoping for news – good or bad – of one or more loved ones. A race against time is underway: helping survivors, finding those still alive and identifying the victims. Rescue teams have been carrying out repeated helicopter flights, as air access is now the only way to reach remote areas cut off from the rest of the world. Civil society has also mobilised, particularly Nepal’s Generation Z. From Kathmandu to Betrawati, FRANCE 24's reporters Alban Alvarez and Fantine Dantzer accompanied a humanitarian convoy along one of the country’s most treacherous roads.
