Morning recap
Morning recap Good morning Middle East Eye readers, If you're just joining us, here are key developments: * US President Donald Trump said: “We have a decision that I’ll make about Iran. Iran has been decimated, so the only question is, it’ll either be the easy way or the hard way.” * US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said that the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is “ironclad” and that US President Donald Trump has “all the options he needs on the table” if Iran continues to “play games” with the strait. * Yemeni military spokesman Brigadier General Majid Abdullah Al-Nuzaili said the government forces forces have carried out 97 “precision targeting operations” against the Houthis on the Al-Tawwahi front in the Lahij and Taiz provinces. * Yahya Saree, a spokesman for Yemen's Houthi fighters, has said that Houthis targeted a major Saudi Arabian oil facility with ballistic missiles and drones. * By claiming an attack on Riyadh, Houthis were “attempting to divert attention from the scale of the losses and the growing public anger against them”, the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen has said. * Israeli defence ministry has said that a total of 1,318 Israeli personnel have been killed since Hamas’s 7 October 2023 attack. * Iran opened a military training centre in Tehran on Saturday, which is said to be aimed at preparing citizens to confront US and Israeli forces in the event of a ground attack. * Several Palestinians were detained by Israeli forces, while settlers continued attacks on Palestinian homes in the occupied West Bank since Saturday evening, according to reports. * At least 31 people linked to four networks backed by the US and Israel have been arrested in Iran on charges of fomenting unrest and carrying out acts of sabotage, Iran's Press TV reported. * Attacks on commercial ships witnessed a surge during the past three days, as at least three tankers were struck by unidentified projectiles in and around the Strait of Hormuz, according to United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) warnings. * The United States has expelled two members of the Iranian delegation who attended the recent UN General Assembly after they ignored an order to leave the country, the State Department said Saturday. * Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says the government has adopted a “new arrangement to manage these special conditions” amid US sanctions and a naval blockade.

Israeli embassies in UK, US promote copycat NAZA weeks after original's Venice triumph
Israeli embassies in UK, US promote copycat NAZA weeks after original's Venice triumph Submitted by MEE staff on Sun, 10/04/2026 - 03:02 The film's website says the directors cannot be named for security reasons and names Three Musketeers Production, 'a company in formation', as the provider Israeli politicians, journalists and members of the public have attacked Szor and Abraham, accusing them of treason. (AFP) Off Israeli embassies in the United States and the UK are promoting a copycat NAZA, nearly a month after the release of the original that focuses on testimony of Israelis killing Palestinians in Gaza. In posts on X, the embassies said that "Naza: The Real Story" is "setting the record straight" and claims to offer a firsthand account from senior Israeli military commanders and intelligence officers directly involved in Israel's genocidal Gaza war. It said the film uses combat footage, declassified materials, captured intelligence and firsthand testimony to give context on "how the war was fought and the challenges Israeli forces faced". The film's website names the provider as Three Musketeers Production, "a company in formation," and says a registered address and registration number will be published once the company is registered. It says the directors are deliberately not named "for their safety". Claimed to have been filmed on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, the 49-minute documentary is available in 17 languages, with English subtitles, on its official website, nazadocumentary.com. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); "Rooftop interviews with senior IDF commanders: Hamas fighters in civilian clothes, hostages held in homes, aid and Hamas. For people about to watch this film, not a NASA picture," reads a blog entry about the film. The website gives a release date of 20 September 2026 and says the film can also be watched in theatres. Blog posts on the film's website, dated 18-26 September, summarise interviews it says are included in the documentary. As elections loom, Naza controversy strikes at the heart of Israel's crisis Read More » "One interview covers Gaza from north to south. No personal names appear on this page, and the directors are unnamed for security reasons," the website notes. "This page summarises what the interviewee says. It reports his account and the IDF rules he describes. It does not verify them independently." 'Hang the traitors': NAZA directors face Israeli backlash Directed by Israeli journalists Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, "Naza: A Window into Systems of Mass Killing", has riled the Israeli government and far-right elements of the Israeli society since its premiere and Special Jury Prize win at the Venice International Film Festival last month. The 25-minute ovation for the film set a new record for any movie at a major festival, surpassing the near 24 minutes scored by The Voice Of Hind Rajab at last year’s Venice festival. NAZA examines the AI-powered systems used in Israel's war in Gaza and allegations that high numbers of Palestinian civilian deaths were factored into military targeting decisions. The documentary features interviews with 24 Israeli military and intelligence insiders, whose identities remained anonymous. Israeli politicians, journalists and members of the public have attacked Szor and Abraham, accusing them of treason and calling for their citizenship to be revoked. Last month, Culture Minister Miki Zohar called the film "despicable" and said he would "act immediately to revoke the Israeli citizenship of these despicable creators on the grounds of treason against the state". (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu joined Zohar in attacking the filmmakers, saying he would introduce two bills targeting those who "defame" the Israeli military. NAZA review: Portrait of Israel as a nation stuck in a moral abyss Read More » Netanyahu said the first bill "would revoke the citizenship of anyone who defames soldiers", while the second would increase "twentyfold the amount in damages for which they can be sued for defamation". "They have no place among us," Netanyahu said of those who "defame" the Israeli army. The Israeli military's Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir has ordered legal action against Szor and Abraham with the help of the Shin Bet, according to Israeli media. Dozens of far-right Israelis gathered outside Szor's family home on 16 September, demanding she be hanged. The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that several of the protesters demanded the "death penalty for traitors". One demonstrator said that when Szor and Abraham return to Israel, "they should be tried and go to the gallows, and the family should be expelled and the house sealed". 'Attempt to bury the real film' Many social media users dismissed the documentary as "propaganda" and an attempt to "bury the real film". An X account named Britain United wrote: "Pathetic, that actual Naza documentary must be really exposing for you to try to SEO bury the real film online by using the same title." @IsraelinUK Pathetic, that actual Naza documentary must be really exposing for you to try to SEO bury the real film online by using the same title. — Britain United (@BritUnited) October 3, 2026 "Setting the record straight?" asked lepton939, "Joe do you determine the veracity of these assertions which are anonymous. You cannot. You must regard it as propaganda. Truth is truth because it can be verified by facts." Another user, @riteinthemiddle, questioned: "Funny, where was the documentary setting the record straight after the Hind Rajab movie?" Richard, who identifies himself as a former foreign services officer, wrote: "You can try and spin the Israeli slaughter of the residents of Gaza all you want but it won’t work. @IsraelinUK You can try and spin the Israeli slaughter of the residents of Gaza all you want but it won’t work. — Richard (@RFHanrahan) October 3, 2026 Israel's genocide in Gaza News Post Date Override 0 Update Date Mon, 05/04/2020 - 21:19 Update Date Override 0
