Heavy clashes reported between Yemeni forces and Houthis in Taiz
Heavy clashes reported between Yemeni forces and Houthis in Taiz Heavy clashes between Yemeni government forces and Houthi fighters have been reported in Taiz governorate, particularly in the al-Waziyah district around the al-Dharifah intersection, Al Jazeera reported, quoting government military sources.  Yemeni government forces have said that some 30 Houthi fighters were killed and another 60 have been wounded.  Government forces also reported air strikes on Houthi positions around al-Dhikra Junction and the al-Damna and al-Rahida areas. In Mocha, government forces said raids targeted Houthi movements, reinforcements and roads leading to the area in an effort to disrupt supply lines and prevent further advances towards the coast. The Yemeni army also said it repelled a Houthi attack on its positions in Kahbub after more than three hours of fighting, claiming the assault was pushed back three times and the attackers were forced to retreat.

Fear and broken families: Inside a Texas ICE detention centre
Since Donald Trump’s return to the White House in January 2025, migrant arrests have surged in the United States. More than 610,000 people have passed through detention centres run by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the federal immigration agency in under two years. The pace only continues to accelerate: in August 2026, nearly 51,000 arrests were made in a single month – a record for Trump’s second term. Who are the people being held in these centres? What are their living conditions like? And how is Trump’s mass deportation policy upending the lives of families settled in the United States? In this report, Valérie Defert and Pierrick Laurent investigate the issue in Texas – the heart of the new US immigration detention system.

'Election without meaningful competition': Russia’s results won't measure support for Putin or war
Alison Sargent is pleased to welcome Grégoire Roos, Director of the Europe and Russia and Eurasia Programmes at Chatham House. According to Roos, Russia’s parliamentary election is revealing because of what the electoral process can still tell us about the political system Vladimir Putin has constructed. In the absence of any meaningful competition, and anti-war opposition excluded, Roos argues that the most revealing signals may lie elsewhere: in turnout, the timing of voting, the performance of the remaining parties, and the Kremlin’s effort to frame participation itself as evidence of national unity.
