New York Mayor Mamdani condemns continued killings in Gaza and Aipac New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has sharply criticised the continuing violence in Gaza, saying that more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed since the announcement of a ceasefire and arguing that the situation remains unacceptable. Speaking in a televised interview, Mamdani said: "I want to be very clear. We're talking about a status quo where children are being killed on a daily basis." He also referenced the death of Al Jazeera journalist Ahmed Wishah, who was killed in an Israeli strike on 21 June. Responding to questions about his previous criticism of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (Aipac), Mamdani said the organisation had supported what he described as an unjust status quo. "When I am speaking about AIPAC, I'm speaking about an organisation that has been supportive of the status quo," he said. He added that the current situation represented "a status quo of immorality" and argued that those who enable it should also be held accountable.

Iranian vice president says Tehran still distrusts Washington Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref has said Tehran remains deeply distrustful of the United States, warning that even a formal agreement would not guarantee an end to hostile actions against the country.  According to the ISNA news agency, Aref said: "Even in the event of an agreement with the United States, there is no guarantee that hostile actions will stop." He added that Iran therefore had to maintain a high level of preparedness regardless of diplomatic developments. Aref said that strengthening deterrence through scientific and technological advancement remained a long-term priority for the Islamic Republic. "Maintaining the country's readiness and increasing deterrence power through the development of science and technology is a permanent necessity for the Islamic Republic of Iran," he said.

NEW DELHI: Gun battles between rival ethnic groups in India’s troubled northeastern Manipur state killed three men, police said, the latest unrest in the far-flung region. Manipur has seen periodic clashes for nearly three years between the predominantly Hindu Meitei majority and the mainly Christian Kuki community in which more than 250 people have been killed. “In a heavy exchange of fire … three individuals sustained fatal bullet injuries,” Manipur police said in a statement late Friday.
