Oil spill spotted near Iran export terminal on Kharg Island, AP reports The United States Department of War has declined to comment on reports of a possible recent strike near Iran’s Kharg Island, the country’s main oil export terminal, according to Associated Press. Satellite imagery reviewed by the agency showed an oil spill near the island earlier this week, before the latest round of US strikes on Iranian vessels and coastal targets on Thursday and early Friday. The oil slick was first detected on Tuesday in waters off Kharg Island and had expanded to about 71 square kilometres by Friday, AP reported, citing maritime intelligence firm Windward AI. The source of the spill remains unclear, and there has been no official confirmation linking it to military activity. Iran mocks Trump nuclear threat with Dr Strangelove reference Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei mocked US President Donald Trump over recent comments threatening a possible nuclear strike on Iran. “It is a grotesque absurdity that they claim to seek peace and prevent a nuclear crisis, yet their proposed solution is ‘one big glow’,” Baghaei wrote in a post on X. The spokesman accompanied the post with a clip from Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, the Cold War satire directed by Stanley Kubrick about an accidental nuclear attack on the Soviet Union. Baghaei’s remarks came after Trump told reporters on Thursday that if the ceasefire with Iran collapses, “you’re just going to have to look at one big glow coming out of Iran”. Trump has repeatedly said dismantling Tehran’s nuclear programme is a condition for ending the conflict.
